The CEO and founder of the Denver-based dispensary thinks gifting cannabis may become a new holiday tradition in many Colorado households, as the state marks the end of its first year of legal, recreational marijuana sales to adults

Super Saturday, the last Saturday before Christmas, is reportedly rivaling Black Friday this year as the busiest day in the 2014 holiday shopping season.

And like other retailers, The Grass Station had a steady pre-Christmas stream of customers, ready to purchase marijuana and marijuana-related holiday gifts, this past Saturday.

“I definitely intend to take advantage…of the recreational cannabis as gifts”, said 33-year-old Robert, a Denver resident who was enjoying The Grass Station’s holiday sale on vape products. “I got relatives who enjoy cannabis just as much as me, so it’s definitely going to be a great new way to buy a present for somebody.”

As Colorado wraps up its historic first year of legalized sales of recreational marijuana to adults, both residents and out-of-state visitors are enjoying the still-unique experience of openly giving cannabis as a holiday gift to friends and family.

“So long as it’s a responsible deal, no problem; it’s a great thing,” said Alex, 45, a Tampa Bay, Florida resident who was in Colorado for the holidays. Alex found The Grass Station on his smart phone app, and said he considered cannabis to be one of Colorado’s must-see tourist attractions, along with the Rocky Mountains and the buffalo.

“For me it’s something that’s low-cost,” said Kyla, a recent transplant to Colorado from Oklahoma, who came to The Grass Station to buy pre-rolled joints for her husband as a Christmas present.

“We had a rush of new customers on Black Friday, a very good Super Saturday and we've been very happy with the rising pace of business this holiday season,” said Grass Station CEO and founder Ryan Fox. “And now, with more people catching on to the idea of gifting marijuana, we’re hopefully starting some new holiday traditions in households around Colorado.”

As part of its holiday sales, The Grass Station continues to offer steep discounts on its cannabis vaporizers and extracts, as well as deals on other stocking-stuffers. And the store will continue to honor coupons from its fellow Colorado dispensaries until the end of the year – a promotion that’s been very popular with customers.

ABOUT THE GRASS STATION Denver's premier recreational dispensary first opened its doors in 2009, and over the years has maintained its widespread reputation as the source for top-quality cannabis, served up in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
